Life has taught me to expect changes & transitions.

And life continues to teach me that everything doesn’t always go the way we plan and that is okay. I continue to be amazed by what always comes next…

a lesson.

Each path I have been pushed towards has always been my greatest teacher. I will share with you some of the most impact lessons I have learned.

When I was 21 and two months away from graduating from college, I was diagnosed with a condition that paralyzed half of my face. Here is when I learned that beauty is beyond appearance and material, it is a presence that we can choose to share at anytime with an open heart. I also learned that my health was not only affected by what I ate and how much I exercised, my health was to be seen as a whole and if one area of my life was out of balance so would the rest of my health. I learned the impact stress, my environment and relationships could have on my health.

As a Peace Corps Volunteer working in Costa Rica, I was extremely happy, working my dream job. There were many changes, from the way I used transportation to the foods I was eating . Just as I was entering the half way point in my service, I was faced another unexpected change. I was diagnosed with type one diabetes, a chronic illness I would manage and care for for the rest of my life. Here is where life taught me that we have to make tough decisions at times and we must trust the timing. I had a choice, to allow my illness to control my life or find ways to continue living my life without limits.

That is exactly what I did. I read books, took classes, joined programs and connected with other diabetics. I was dedicated to living a life of adventure, nourishment and joy.

Today, our world is transitioning through a significant change. The education system is changing, the way we work our day jobs have transitioned to virtual interactions and the way we go grocery shopping has changed.

Transitions always feel scary, overwhelming and uncomfortable. Be proud of yourself for adjusting to these changes, it is not easy but remember you get to make choices and decisions-those are in your control.

Where we are is unpredictable & that is life. Take this time to learn and find the lesson within.
